lechard From Richard LeChard’s wife Anne. 12/11/2007

This is to let you know that Dick had open-heart surgery on 12/11 and will not be responding to your e-mails. He requested that you not send any e-mails until you hear from him so he does not have as much e-mail to go through when he returns home. He weathered the storm and is recovering, but I am not sure when he will return.

boyer Wanted you to know that I came home yesterday after a total knee replacement on Nov. 6th. My stay at Betty Bacharach Rehab Hospital was a wonderful experience. I felt I was so well cared for. I will start therapy at Bacharach today for about a month.

Very few people knew I was going in. I told me neighbors the day before. It was a very tough decision to make and I was quite upset about going.....and scared. I requested that no one visit or send anything. Everyone co-operated.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ours will be quiet. Jeff and his daughter will come down. Missie and DJ will go to her Mom's as this is the first holiday without her Dad and she didn't want her Mom to be alone.

Love, bjm

Ron Jordon Nov 17 2007

jordon dobson On Thursday November 1st, I had the pleasure of going to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for the promotional ceremony of Captain Byron A. Dobson ( the son of our classmate Teddy Dobson) to the rank of Major. This all took place on Friday, November 2, 2007.

Byron is a 1989 graduate of Atlantic City High School. Upon completion, he went to North Carolina A. & T. University. During his third year of college, he decided that he wanted to join the army. As you can imagine, Teddy was furious over this decision. Like all good parents he wanted to see his son finish college, but we sometimes have to go with the flow and Byron became an Airborne Ranger, which means he was a part of that special forces team whose assignments are some of the most dangerous, especially during the time of war.

Byron started as an enlisted man working his way through the ranks from private to sergeant, at which time he decided he wanted to be an officer. Upon successful completion of the officer candiates school, he became a second lieutenant. As I stated, he is now a Major. He also completed his bachelor’s degree and will be entering a program to obtain his masters very shortly.

Let me say how proud of him I was and of all the military men that I talked to when I was down there, it takes a special breed of person who is willing to give up their life, in the name of freedom. I'm sure Teddy is looking down and smiling upon Byron, and is as proud as he can be.

Warmest regards to all during this holiday season

Hi Barry!

I always read your "Bits & Bytes". I love it! It's great keeping track of everyone. I thought it was about time that I contributed something from our California classmates. I have attached a picture of 4 of our members together at an Atlantic City West Coast Reunion in California last Sat. night Aug 25. It was held on the Queen Mary in Long Beach Harbor and a fun time was had by all. fish

In the picture from left are Norman Palley, Dr. Russell Jackson, Marilyn Ross Schwadron, and Dr. David Subin. Norman, Russell and myself live near each other in Los Angeles/Culver City area, but David came up from San Diego to be with us. It was great seeing them. Anyone out there living in California who would like to be included in our next west coast reunion just email me at msross5@aol.com. We would love to have you join us. We would love to have you join us even if you don't live in California - just come for a visit.

Looking forward to the next edition of "Bits & Bytes". Barry, keep up the great work!

Hi Barry,

I entered a fight for my life in January. I was celebrating five years free of cancer not knowing I now had a different type. It was pointed out to me by my latest import, A French Beauceron whose breeder delivered him in person. This dog would not let the area alone. Further examination indicated that genetically it was the worst of fifty known cancers. Now, I receive chemo once a week for six hours, and treatment covers 67 weeks. I have a 50% chance of recovery if the treatment does not give me a heart attack. I owe my chance of recovery to that dog.

I have had dogs all my life and hard dogs at that, meaning high protection. I taught them Schutzhund, French Ring, Agility, and Mondio Competition.

I travel Europe to find the German and French breeds, plus attend competitive shows. The French Beauceron is a high protection dog, highly intelligent, and also can be extremely dangerous.

My other breeds are Boxers, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, and Dobermans. I like to work German Shepherds and Dobermans together. The first for its scent capabilities and the second for its acute hearing and awesome protection. They make an unbeatable pair.

I have not stopped traveling and will be heading for Germany in October and again in December checking in at shows. In the spring I'll be traveling to Belgium and France to see the French dogs work. My dogs work a 22 piece agility course here at the house. Some of them will work it by themselves walking a see-saw, or jumping through tires, to amuse themselves.

I just retired this January from teaching. I worked for years with Ted Dobson, we had a lot of good times and laughs. I certainly miss him, he was a good friend.

Thanks for the wonderful work you do hosting the class web site.

Ronn Green & Bruce Gardner 8/22/2007

Hi Barry
green gardner Bruce and Sara Gardner spent 2 weeks this past April in Sarasota, FL. visiting ACHS classmate Ron Green and his wife Arlene. The foursome spent their days walking the beautiful Siesta Key white sand beach and evenings trying out all the popular restaurants.

Ron gained 6 pounds during the visit but Bruce wisely opted not to get weighed. ACHS '52 grad & Sarasota green resident, Bob 'Oogie' Goldberg joined them several nights and shared in the reminiscing. They are all grieving the loss of their good buddy Harold Garber...

Ron's ACBP lifeguard partner on Raleigh Ave. lifeguard stand. Harold was due to visit Ron again during the summer but his life was unfortunately cut short.
